    World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks a Program Associate, Sustainable Ranching Initiative for our Bozeman, Montana office. World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Northern Great Plains (NGP) program envisions a future where thriving prairies and an abundance of wildlife contribute to the economic and cultural sustainability of the people who live in the NGP. We work with the ranching community, public agencies, tribal nations, and other conservation partners to ensure that the richness of the prairie ecosystem is sustained and enhanced for future generations to enjoy. Nearly 94 million acres in the NGP remain as privately managed intact grassland, providing havens for threatened species like the greater sage-grouse, Sprague’s pipits, and mountain plovers. Keeping these private rangelands intact not only helps conserve biodiversity, but it also means cleaner streams, less fertilizer runoff, more pollinators for plants and more carbon stored in the soil.


    Since 2011, WWF’s Sustainable Ranching Initiative (SRI) has been working to establish a productive dialogue between conservation interests and the ranching community in the NGP. We’ve also significantly increased our engagement with players in the beef commodity marketplace. We’re driven by the goal of maintaining intact grasslands by applying WWF’s influence throughout the beef supply chain and ensuring that intact grasslands are valued by a marketplace of informed consumers.


    Under the direction of the SRI Program Officer, the Program Associate works to support program goals and objectives through conducting research and analysis, organizing information and materials, drafting reports, proposals and presentations, and assisting with project management, policy development and analysis. Coordinates major activities for the program, communicates with staff on ongoing activities, and administers and monitors budgets, contracts and other assigned projects.


    • Performs research on specific issues for SRI program staff. Gathers, organizes and analyzes information from a variety of sources. Stays current on issues related to the SRI program, including sustainable beef, rangeland management, grassland policy issues, and community-based conservation. May assist with developing various databases to track information on conservation-related matters.
    • Writes case studies, research summaries, informational documents, and presentation materials. Composes reports, briefings and other documents to summarize findings. Develops proposals, consulting agreements and other agreements for final approval.
    • Serves as communications person for information related to the program. Identifies, coordinates and expedites the communication of information and issues within the team.
    • Assists in donor communications and fundraising activities, develops program-specific publications.
    • Works with SRI team and operations team to track and manage budgets as well as contract and grant deliverables.
    • Helps manage administrative tasks for the SRI program. May assist with meeting planning, travel arrangements, and other general office duties. (30% of the role)
    • Performs other duties as assigned


    • A Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Must have a minimum of two years relevant experience, preferably with environmental or conservation.
    • Strong organizational and analytical skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Experience with event planning and/or travel arrangements is a plus
    • Initiative, ability to prioritize and complete work with minimal supervision
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
    • Familiarity with Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access)
