World Wildlife Fund-United States (WWF US) seeks a visionary to fill the role of Managing Director and lead the work of an innovative new collaboration that has been forged across four influential organizations: The Nature Conservancy, Pew Charitable Trusts, ZOMALAB, and WWF.
The Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) model is currently one of the most promising strategies for helping to stem the precipitous and dangerous decline of biodiversity and mitigate the impacts of climate change, and this initiative aims to facilitate and accelerate the PFP model to move beyond the practice of creating complex deals one-by-one, and instead establish a portfolio approach that draws on and leverages shared expertise and resources from multiple innovative institutions. The project will provide solutions to the two main barriers for rapid implementation of PFP deals globally: (1) consolidated expertise, in which tools and learnings developed from each PFP are shared and applied across the portfolio at an accelerated pace, and (2) sufficient financing to develop and capitalize deals.
The partners will work together closely, drawing on various strengths, assets, resources, and complementary experiences and perspectives, to develop a portfolio of PFPs around the world. The first phase of this five-year collaboration includes the ambitious goals of completing six PFP deals, developing a robust pipeline of other opportunities, and mobilizing public and private philanthropic support to secure 20 PFPs by the year 2030.
At the heart of this innovative alliance is a Collaboration Hub, led by the Managing Director who will serve on the core management team, under the day-to-day supervision of the Chair. The Collaboration Hub will be comprised of a small team providing centralized support for the initiative in accordance with priorities identified by the CEO Council and the representatives of the partners on the core management team.
The Managing Director has three major functions: 1) supporting a portfolio of PFPs and the growing community of organizations engaged in replicating the model; 2) representing the partnership in relevant global fora and raising awareness of its goals and approach in key audiences; 3) overseeing Collaboration Hub staff. The Collaboration Hub will lead and implement activities including documenting lessons learned, knowledge management and sharing, building a community of practice, and helping ensure strategic coordination across the initiative.
The position will embody the characteristics of the partnership: guided by a commitment to transparency, collaboration, learning, shared decision making, and ownership.
Preferably the position will be located at WWF’s US headquarters in Washington, DC, however, other locations may be considered.
