World Wildlife Fund-United States (WWF-US), one of the world’s leading environment organizations, seeks a Director, Market Data & Systems Transparency to lead critical areas of innovative, scalable work with the private sector to drive ocean resilience and health.

The Director will lead core areas of work including traceability and transparency, data systems and impact targeting, and innovative blue finance work with the private sector. The Director will collaborate with across WWF US Ocean Team, other WWF US Teams, the WWF Network, and other critical stakeholders in to identify and develop scalable projects in ways that are environmentally sustainable, climate responsive, and socially equitable.  The individual in this role must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment, executing quickly on a range of strategic and transactional responsibilities, as well as thinking critically to add value and solve problems.

• Lead WWF US Oceans strategic development and implementation of work on transparency and traceability with the private sector. Continue to build on WWF US’s corporate ask for traceability and build on new work around verification of commitments.
• Lead the development of innovative tools and strategies to advance Ocean Markets supply chain transparency and traceability programmatic work.
• Lead team on data systems to support reaching WWF Ocean’s targeted impacts in seascapes and globally.
• Work closely to support the Sr. Director of Blue Finance to develop and implement a blue finance strategy targeting financial market actors using a strong case for action to shift capital away from harmful activities within key blue economy sectors (E.g. fishing, aquaculture, shipping, marine renewables, coastal development) towards sustainable blue economy pathways, minimizing value at risk and strengthening environmental,
• Support the adoption and implementation of UNEP Sustainable Blue Economy Finance Principles by the global banking sector.
• Advance the development and integration of ocean-based ESG risk factors, narratives, and tools for use by the financial sector.
• Support the development of financial products and tools to advance WWF goals towards a sustainable blue economy and healthy ocean.
• Lead creation of communications materials for the private sector on finance, traceability, and other areas as relevant by working with the WWF US communications team and external consultants.
• Work across WWF-US and the global network to advance WWF US Oceans Team strategic goals and objectives.
• Support WWF senior management to refine a strategy for the platform that is aligned with our conservation mission, meets key high-quality benchmarks, and has the potential to scale in size and impact.
• Team with WWF country offices and other WWF teams working with the facility to conceptualize and draft funding proposals.
• Manage direct team of staff of 5+ FTEs

• 10+ years demonstrated experience working in ocean markets with at least 7 years of experience engaging in ocean transparency and traceability.
• Bachelor’s degree in business and/or environmental conservation. Advanced degree preferred but not required.
• Strong experience in working with the private sector on ocean relevant sectors, especially seafood.
• Experience working with global data sets, trade data, and/or geospatial data to advance transparency of aquaculture and fishery sectors.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to present arguments and analysis in a clear and succinct manner to WWF management, partners and funders
• Strong ability to take initiative with research and analysis and produce valuable results in conditions of uncertainty and working independently
• Work and deliver projects independently, proactively and under pressure

Position will operate out of the DC office.
